This talk is based on Savitri Book Two Canto Eight where Sri Aurobindo describes the world of Falsehood and its origin, its action upon earth and humanity and its purpose if any in the grand scheme of creation. Just as there is a world of Truth which is the origin and goal of creation, there is a world of falsehood which is its very shadow, a complete denial of Truth, a world that acts as if completely unconscious of the Divine, it builds its castle of death by entombing life, it opposes and is hostile to all that is beautiful and true. It is a world that feeds on suffering and bitterness and pain. It is a world of division and cruelty and hate with fear and lust as pastimes and evil and corruption as spice in its banquet. It is from this world that evil stealthily emerges when the human being walks in the Night which is its den and influences men filling his life with carnage and horror. It is important to know this world and its workings so that we are vigilant in our journey towards the eternal Truth and Light and Peace and Beauty and Bliss. Yet this world and its forces have been allowed to intervene in the pathways that turn towards the Light with a purpose that our surface mind cannot fathom. A Wisdom works hidden and asleep in the heart of the Night. Hell is often a short cut towards Heaven and destruction paves the way for a New and better Creation.
